Bio Data of Oloye Lekan Alabi Aare Alaasa Olubadan of Ibadanland

Oloye AbduulRasheed Olalekan Alabi, is a senior traditional chief, is the Aare Alaasa Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oyo State. He was born on October 27, 1950 in Ibadan to the late Pa AbdulRasheed Oladosu Alabi, alias “Right Time”, of Oyetunji Olundegun and Ekerin Ajengbe Families of Ibadan. His mother, Mopelola, hails from the Osotun Family of Emure-Ekiti State and Adeyanju Family of Agbede-Adodo, Ibadan.

He attended Seventh-Day Adventist Primary School Oke-Foko, Ibadan (1958-1963) and was the school’s head boy; Ansar-Ud-Deen Primary School, Oke-Foko, (1964-1969). He was a village school teacher at St. John’s Anglican Primary School, Akinajo near Arulogun in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State in 1971. He joined the Onibonoje Press Limited, Ibadan in 1972 as the company’s pioneer Editorial Assistant.

Oloye Alabi started his Media/Public Relations career with the former Sketch Publishing Company Limited, Ibadan in 1973. He was a four-time Co-ordinator of the Sketch Press Limited (1998, 1999, 2001 & 2005). He joined the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Ibadan in 1978 after graduating from the College of Journalism, Fleet Street, London, United Kingdom and moved to the former Television Service of Oyo State (Now BCOS TV) as a pioneer staff in 1982. He was the first reporter to appear on the TV channel in 1982, as well as the pioneer Chairman of the station’s chapel of the NUJ.

In February 1983, Oloye Alabi was seconded from the TSOS as a press secretary to the late Governor ‘Bola Ige of old Oyo State (present Oyo and Osun States) and served three successors of Ige, retired Major-General Oladayo Popoola, retired Brigadier-General Adetunji Olurin and the late Brigadier-General Sasaenia Oresanya from 1984 till March 1989. Oloye Alabi was the pioneer Public Affairs Manager of Odu’s investment Company Limited, which he joined in August, 1989. He voluntarily retired in March, 2007 as the first General Manager, Corporate Affairs of the conglomerate.

He is a member and the Culture Ambassador of Omo Ajorosun Club, Ibadan.

Oloye Alabi is a member of the member of the Ibadan North Local Government Traditional Council. He is a recipient of many distinguished awards and is listed in “Nigeria’s Who’s Who’s”. He was awarded the Doctor of Letters degree (Honoris Causa) by Achiever’s University, Owo, Ondo State, on 11^th December, 2013.

A book, “Songs for Alabi” was dedicated to him in 2014 by a famous playwright/poet. Ebika Anthony, former Chairman, Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) Oyo State Branch.
Thoughts and Actions (2015)

Oloye Alabi married former Miss Adetokunbo Laditan in London, UK on August 12, 1978 and they are blessed with admirable children and grandchildren. He was installed the Akogun (Valiant) of Lalupon, in Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State in 1991 and the Mogaji (Head) of the Oyetunji Olundegun Family of Ile Oye, Isale ‘Jebu, Ibadan in 1994. Oloye Alabi was promoted from Mogaji to Jagun Olubadan in the Ibadan Traditional Chieftaincy line in December 2002 by the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, HRM Oba Yinusa Bankole Oladoja Ogundipe, Arapasowu 1.

A regular –public affairs commentator, Oloye Alabi now practices as a PR/Media Consultant, motivational speaker and culture ambassador. He is Nigeria’s second longest – surviving columnist vide his weekly column in a popular City People Magazine. He is a freelance commentator on two weekly popular programme on Space Radio 90.1FM.

Among countries visited by him are Holland, Great Britain, Italy, Sweden, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Cameroon, Kenya, Cote d’Ivoire, Belgium, Ghana, South Africa, Zambia, Benin Republic, France and Uganda.

His hobbies are travelling and music.
